One major highlight at the LAAD is a setup of the innovative smartVISION solution. The newly designed product not only enables air traffic controllers operating airfields from a different location, but also provides the capability to enhance the optical view a controller has at its tower working position. The combination of infrared and electro-optical (EO) cameras (180° / 360°) that integrate flight data information on a monitor allows the controller to safely operate the local air traffic from any position – either geographically dislocated or in a protected infrastructure. SmartVISION does not only provide a camera view of the local air space, it also provides additional information (speed, direction, distance, etc.) that helps the controller guide air vehicles in the aerodrome area. Combined with other FREQUENTIS tools, such as Electronic Flight Strips, the Tower Automation Tools, and obviously the voice communication system, the developed solution meets any requirements for state of the art tower operations.
Another highlight is the so called iSecCOM. This product is a highly available voice communication system designed for safety-critical environments. Due to its flexibility and scalability it can be used in command and control centres as well as in military air traffic control. The system is employed in stationary, deployable and mobile configurations. iSecCOM is a completely IP-based system, connecting command posts and air control centres with nationwide radio sites including remote control of the tactical radios which can be integrated in existing IP-based wide area networks. The system is able to integrate all kind of encryption devices and thus allows an encrypted transmission from the operator at the ground to the pilot. The operator position itself allows simultaneous monitoring of both security domains using a single headset and a touch entry device. The headset is connected to a certified (Common Criteria EAL 4+) audio switch, which enables and guarantees call separation from and to the different security domains (red/black separation).
