CONTROP Precision Technologies, a world leader in EO/IR surveillance, defence and homeland security solutions, is presenting (Hall 6, Stand A-81) its recent technological breakthrough: The TORNADO passive lightweight fast scanning InfraRed (IR) camera for air defence applications.
According to VP Marketing, Mr. Johnny Carni, "Drones are becoming more prevalent and they present new threats to personal security. Most of the radar-based air defense systems are not designed to withstand the threats of small drones that fly below 100 feet. We recognized this gap in technology and came up with an IR-based solution - the TORNADO - an ideal solution to this urging problem. This unique system leverages IR's 24/7 night vision capability and CONTROP’s technological expertise. It panoramically scans a very large area with high speed, using sophisticated algorithms to detect very subtle changes in the scenery. The TORNADO was recently tested and proven capable of detecting and tracking even the smallest and lowest flying drones.”
The TORNADO can be operated locally or remotely from a Command and Control Center, as standalone system or integrated with other systems such as RF RADAR, C2, EO/IR Observation systems etc. Carni adds: “The Air Defense TORNADO provides an automatic audio and visual alert which notifies the Operator that a flying objective has entered a ‘no-fly’ zone, enabling the system to be used to control any airspace and to prevent entrance of any unauthorized aircraft. These unique capabilities also allow the TORNADO to be a perfect choice for perimeter protection and security of critical assets such as airports, power plants and along international borders."
The TORNADO is also applicable for Coastal Surveillance when mounted on towers along a coastline to detect various sizes of ships at long ranges and to enable protection of the coastline from unwanted intruders. The TORNADO can also be used to provide Vessel Traffic Control (VTS) in the port/harbour.
