Like a Christmas present once cherished, paraded and played with, but now discarded, an Airbus Helicopter experimental X3 stands forlorn and unloved hidden behind the fast food vans and kebab sellers on the main flight line on the first day of the Paris Airshow. Its weed covered stand really does give the wrong impression.
The X3 was much paraded by Airbus Helicopter during its trials and recorded 255 knots (472 km/h; 293 mph) in level flight on 7 June 2013. Whether this particular aircraft is still the responsibility of Airbus Helicopters, it is a shame that there is no little pride in its positioning of Airbus helicopter’s most advanced rotorcraft at Europe’s biggest airshow this year.
